It seems like it was yesterday when I wrote the first post about individuals who founded AWS User Groups in their communities and ed my ambitious project of connecting founders and organizers of these groups into a single vibrant community. And yet, today I found myself writing my 5th post in this series Special thanks and credits to Sead B — Techjardine for his great contribution to this articleand I feel very proud of how Global AWS communities support pro gram grew in this short period of just a few months.
My posts so far presented individuals and their cities from around the world. Currently residing in Tampa, Florida, Jeff is passionate about his work and technology in general, and thus he decided to found the first AWS User Group in this area. I am very passionate about the cloud and AWS specifically, and this gave me an opportunity to share this with other companies that are just as passionate.
The area is famous for its beaches, warm weather and more than kilometers of barrier islands from North Pinellas to Venice in the south. Also, beautiful city parks such as Hillsborough River State Park, Honeymoon Island State Park, and famous museums are just few reasons why many young people choose to move to this area. Tampa city especially has many skyscrapers, the tallest building being the North Tampa which rises 42 floors meters in Downtown Tampa.
High-tech growth is enabled by academic research which is essential to technology transfer. It was founded inand it offers more than graduate, specialist, and doctoral-level degree programs. Classified as a top tier research university by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, it is also among top 10 universities worldwide in the of US patents granted. This generates exceptional talent in this area and enables the growth of start-up and other IT communities. Also, Tampa Bay is the 4th largest growing job market in the US, and the region continues to invest into becoming a destination for start-ups and companies of all sizes.
As our friend Jeff says, although this area is mostly the land of corporate IT, it does view itself as an emerging tech hub. It is finally getting non-stop flights to San Francisco, which is important for Silicon Valley investors to make trips to the area. Tampa is home of the Tampa Bay Wave, which is a tech accelerator for fast-growing start-ups. They supported over start-ups, and so far they raised over 40 million dollars. In addition to that, commercial office space is affordable in Tampa, and as we mentioned, the existing pool of talented workers in this area is huge.
With a lot of cool stuff happening, the IT communities in Tampa Bay area are blossoming. I believe that one of the biggest benefits of user groups is social networking, so we alternate between classroom style sessions and social networking activities. In just six months they already held seven meetups, and make a community of almost people. Along with that, as stated on their meetup web, sometimes they have a sit-down session with SMEs from AWS or local service providers, or someone from a local business presents their use case for cloud computing. Jeff and other co-organizers of the AWS User Group Tampa Bay are passionate about AWS and they hope they can promote its benefits for businesses, and educate others so they could maybe make a career in cloud computing.
That way I can complete my story and thank them in the end of the post. Jeff started his career as a developer, and he later moved into managing development staff. As he says:. He enjoys his time with his family and friends, supporting local sports Passionate in Tampa Florida like the Tampa Bay Lightning and Buccaneers, and spends quiet time with my wife. in.
